From percent to lots

The calculation that turns a risk in money and a stop distance into the lot size you type into the platform, worked on gold and on bitcoin.

Your rule is a percentage. The platform asks for a lot size. This lesson converts one into the other.

Do the calculation once by hand. After that a position size calculator is a check, not a crutch.

What a lot is worth

A lot is the unit of size, and what one lot is worth depends on the market.

Gold, symbol XAUUSD, is 100 ounces per lot. A 1 dollar move in the gold price is therefore 100 dollars per lot. The smallest size Vantage allows is 0.01 lot, which is 1 ounce, so a 1 dollar move there is 1 dollar.

Bitcoin, symbol BTCUSD, is 1 coin per lot. A 1 dollar move is 1 dollar per lot. The smallest size is again 0.01 lot.

Gold: 100 dollars per lot per 1 dollar move. Bitcoin: 1 dollar.
