Identifying problems

Identifying problemsLesson 3 of 95 min read

Keep asking why

The method: state the behaviour, then ask why until the answer is an emotion rather than another behaviour.

You have three problems written down. On their own they are just a list of things you do. The method turns each one into something you can act on.

Ask why, then ask again

Take the first problem and ask why you do it.

Whatever you answer, ask why about that answer. Then again. You are drilling down through the behaviour towards the thing underneath it.

Two or three steps is usually enough. Four at most.

One question, asked repeatedly, is the whole method.

Stop when you reach an emotion
